Application Instructions
Ultra Penetrating Oil
Vinnie's oil UPO is our base oil that is most often used as the first treatment on a wood-clean surface. It consists of several cold-pressed oils and hard waxes. The oil penetrates below the surface of the wood and causes the wood to swell and harden, while the wax effectively seals pores under the surface. Used with advantage together with our Wax which is the hardest wax on the market and that provides incredibly robust protection also on top of the surface. UPO is a Polymerizing (hardening) oil and should always be used as first treatment for untreated wood.
- Sanding: the wood until a smooth surface. You can sand it up to 600grit. The finer you sand, the more time it needs to soak before you polish. Pop the grains with water. If you sand to 240grit, you should add water to the wood after 180grit for example, wait until its dry, and sand with 240grit after.
- Mix or shake Vinnie's oil UPO thoroughly and apply so that the entire surface is sticky. Thin layers. Rub it into the wood.
- Wait for at least 2 hours. Wipe off. And polish.
- Repeat 2 – 3 layers on exposed surfaces. You can add next layer after 6 – 10h. To minimize maintenance for exposed surfaces, It’s preferably combined with Vinnie's Vax for extra strong resistance. Always wait at least 3 days before use.
Ultra Penetrating Oil Dark
Same as Ultra Penetrating Oil, see instructions above. Leaves the wood with a rustic dark color. Only for use on untreated wood. Shake well before use.
Universal Oil
Vinnie's Oil Universal is our all-round oil that consists of several cold-pressed oils and waxes that do not slightly colors the wood, but only gives a beautiful luster. Used advantageously on light tree species where you gont want the gellowing effect on for example birch wood. Use it as monocoat for less exposed surfaces, or preferable as maintenance oil for an already treated surface. It prevents the wood from drying and cracking. If you use UNI only on a wooden surface, then it is recommended to heat on the first layer so that it better penetrates the wood. Second layer should be laid cold. Non- polymerizing (if you want a polymerizing product, use UPO)
- Sanding: Sand the wood until a smooth surface. You can sand it up to 600grit. The finer you sand, the more time it needs to soak before you polish. Pop the grains with water. If you sand to 240grit, you should add water to the wood after 180grit for example, wait until its dry, and sand with 240grit after.
- Mix Vinnie's oil UPO thoroughly and apply so that the entire surface is sticky. Thin layers. Rub it into the wood.
- Wait for AT LEAST 2h. And wipe off. Polish. The finer you sand, the more time it needs to soak into the wood.
- Repeat 2 – 3 layers. 1 -2 layers if used as maintenance. Wait for at least 3 days before use.
Hard & Soft Wax
Vinnie's WAX is the hardest wax on the market and is intended as a supplement or maintenance wax on a surface treated with UPO or UNI. Due to the hardness and concentration of the wax, it gives an incredibly robust protection on top of the surface. The UPO + VAX combination gives you as strong protection as you can get with food-safe products, UPO + WAX is also what we have used in our uncut hard test where we wash dishes and scrub cutting boards in coffee and a full bag-in-box with wine. The video can be seen on our Instagram.
- Follow the steps above when treating with UPO or UNI.
- When you have thoroughly dried the oil and the surface is dry, you can apply the wax. Rub it in properly to the wood. Only thin layer is needed.
- Wipe off excess wax with lint-free cloth, or grind the wax in with a fine sanding paper. If you grind in the wax with a sander, keep in mind that the grain size should be at least 600 grain, preferably 1000-grain or higher. The roundabout grinder should also be set to the lowest possible revolution. (you should not grind off away the wax, but into the wood).
- Wipe off and polish. Wait 3 days before use.
